Acknowledgment of Traditional Territory
We respectfully acknowledge that the University of Alberta is located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous Peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, Métis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway/Saulteaux/Anishinaabe, and Inuit. Their histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community.
As a lab, we recognize that our work takes place on these lands and we are committed to ongoing learning, reflection, and respect for the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for this land for generations.
This acknowledgment is not just a formality—it is a small but meaningful step in fostering awareness and inclusion, and in honoring the ongoing relationships with the Indigenous communities connected to this territory.
